- Roberto Ugas is an agronomist specializing in ecological agriculture, agrobiodiversity and rural development. He is currently Professor of horticulture and agroecology at UNALM, where he conducts research on horticulture, agroecology, smallholders, plant genetic resources, and food systems. He is actively involved in the study, conservation and promotion of the chilli peppers (Capsicum spp) of Peru.
- He is a member of McKnight Foundation’s Global Collaboration for Resilient Food Systems, supporting action-research in agroecology in Andean countries.
- He serves in Latin America continental supervisory board of Solidaridad, participates in the Latin American Scientific Society of Agroecology and in the International Society of Horticultural Sciences.
- He has been the Vice-President of the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM), advisor to the National Association of Ecological Farmers of Peru (ANPE) and board member of the International Centre for Research in Organic Food Systems.
