SUKATI Mphumuzi Angelbert

FAO Regional Office for Africa – Accra, Ghana

  • Mphumuzi Angelbert Sukati is the Senior Food and Nutrition Officer at the FAO Regional Office for Africa, based in Accra, Ghana, serving 47 countries across the continent. He is the Regional Programme Manager for three flagship initiatives under the FAO Strategic Framework: Healthy Diets for All, Food Safety for Everyone, and the Urban Food Systems Agenda. These initiatives align with FAO’s vision of Better Production, Better Nutrition, a Better Environment, and a Better Life—leaving no one behind.
  • Dr. Sukati also serves as the FAO Representative in Benin (2019–2022) and Togo (2019–present). In addition, he is currently the Regional Programme Coordinator for all FAO programmes across the Africa Region.
  • Before joining FAO, Dr. Sukati worked with the African Union as a Senior Policy Officer (Economics, Trade, and Marketing), where he led livestock trade and marketing programmes continent-wide. He also served as Lead Agricultural Economist at the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), supporting COMESA Member States.
  • Earlier in his career, he worked with the Ministry of Agriculture in the Kingdom of Eswatini, conducting research on global food markets and food price drivers using Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) models and time series analysis. He also served as a Regional Veterinary Officer in Eswatini.
  • Dr. Sukati holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Nottingham, among several other academic qualifications. He is professionally trained as an economist, public administrator, and veterinary surgeon.
